Noda Jusmin
An explorer walking between ceramics and art
A rounded vessel-like form and bright, pop colors.
Coupled with the modern and sophisticated atmosphere, it feels like an intellectual plaything.
However, there are striking black cracks running throughout this vessel.
Jusmin Nodais from Thailand. He moved to Japan when he was a child.
The exotic atmosphere that pervades his works probably comes from this origin.
This crack in his masterpiece ``Ghost'' is said to reflect the negative feelings that Noda felt when he was working on this series, such as various complexes and the narrowness of creating art through crafts.
But this crack also has another meaning.
It is a liberation from the ``use'' that craft works are responsible for.
Because crafts have the characteristic of being ``usable,'' I think that the evaluation of their expression as pure art is being neglected.
After learning about crafts and becoming involved in production, Noda learned how difficult it is to create works of art using crafts.
Noda believes that the quality of craftsmanship lies in the fact that they are tools, and to ensure that quality, he creates his works in the form of vessels. At the same time, I am exploring ways to liberate this role and create expressions that can be viewed purely as objects of appreciation. His representative work ``ghost'' was born as a work that incorporates both a craft approach and an artistic approach.
The ``complex of versatility'' is probably something that many craft artists suffer from.
In the midst of this, many artists have faced this issue and made various attempts, pointing in various directions.
Noda walks through each of these attempts made by pioneers, checking them out one by one.
What is pottery? What is art?
While proposing these things in a neutral manner, I explore as an artist in order to understand the elusive through a journey that is not biased towards either.
