Discover and recreate the mystery
Discovering and recreating mystical elements from ordinary everyday scenes. It is the skill of an artist with a keen sense. The changing patterns of the sky, the waves that fade and disappear, and the strange looking creatures. The world of space, thousands of thousands of kilometers away, also has a transcendental beauty that cannot be measured with the mind. What is reflected in Noguchi's eyes is the law that can be called the source of all things that runs through all of them, and the great trajectory that this has created is reflected in her mind as a story.
Art and science are the tools that humankind has used to approach things that have been covered up in the name of mystery. Today's science was born from the crystallization of souls that sought to unravel the mysteries of the world. The journey to unravel mysteries that began in Greece with the discovery of ``arche'' was continued by ``alchemists'' in the Middle Ages, and their attitude of breaking down the world into the five elements ``earth, water, fire, wind, and sky'' led to the dawn of modern science. On the other hand, art has discovered the extraordinary even in everyday life, and has searched for expressions that can convey that discovery. At a time when the word art did not exist, the world's oldest cave paintings, Lascaux, were a true example of art. These two different approaches to mystical inquiry seem to be sources of creativity for artists.
Due to the difficulty of handling glass, the historical facts of glass have come close to art and then been distanced from it. Noguchi tries to approach again. "Glass art" is now simply called "art." Glass itself is a mysterious material. Due to its transparency, light can freely pass through and be distorted despite the material. The way it takes on shape through the ultra-high temperature of 1,400 degrees Celsius and the process of cooling is reminiscent of the Big Bang, which gave rise to countless stars in outer space. The Big Bang also fostered creativity in the process of cooling extremely high temperatures. Its transparency and solidity allow it to transform non-physical entities such as air, water, and space into objects. The value of glass as a material with the potential for new artistic expression can be seen here. It is this objectification of space that has been consistent in Noguchi's art.
If we become tamed by society, caught up in the fictions of common sense, the world will seem to lose its mystery. However, through artists who actually look at a world where nothing is taken for granted, we can also learn about and see that world. Noguchi's art shows us that path.
