Tea Bowl, Crimson Kase, Hakeme (Brush-Stroke)

A tea bowl that seems to condense the essence of Asahi ware's original "kirei-sabi" aesthetic. The bowl was first thrown round on the wheel, then partially distorted — half square, half round in form — with faint brush-marks running lightly across the whole surface. Though its artifice is visible, the form retains a rustic simplicity, paying homage to the "rouro" quality found in old Asahi ware tea bowls.
