From dusk till night

Under the theme of "cartoons with weight", Miyashita has drawn on the imagery of American cartoon animation to create three-dimensional works with a distinctive worldview. While working in ceramic, he has taken a sculptural approach, deconstructing and reassembling ready-made toys.

What Miyashita returned to, then, is the act of "watching" animation anew. Rotating the jar creates a sequence of images that appear to move — the very origin of animation.
The psychedelic colors dramatize the erotic act of "touching," while the "gradation" suggests the ambiguity of the boundary between things caught in between — day and night, consciousness and the unconscious, painting and animation.
