Frill, slide

Making the most of bamboo's supple qualities, this expresses light, soft curves like the pleats of a skirt.
This work was born as my interest, once focused on geometric forms, began shifting toward organic ones — a change brought on by the birth of my daughter and the organic things that came to fill my surroundings.
The subtitle "slide" was named for a form reminiscent of a roller coaster in motion. The main material is madake bamboo from Oita Prefecture, finished with dyeing and lacquer. To give the piece depth, a gray lacquer — made by mixing white and black urushi — is thinly applied to the woven sections at both ends.
