Is this creature that hangs its head, stretches out its long tongue-like stamen, and moves in a leisurely manner, a monster or a plant?
This work is inspired by the beautiful and fantastical illustrations of plants drawn by biologist Ernst Haeckel. It's a psychedelic, otherworldly creature that looks like something out of a science fiction movie. "Monster" is a typical image of a toy, and reflects Miyashita's style of creating works by reconfiguring ready-made toys.
By giving movement to plants that are not supposed to move, he blurs the boundaries between still life and animals.
