A work fusing cartoon animation with Buddhist imagery. The golden ring bordering the edge of the plate represents a halo, while the angel wings depict the character being called up to heaven.
The gradation of color across the plate draws the eye toward its center, where a single eye, cradled in a cat's paw, peers back out at the viewer.

This work was inspired by a scene from a cartoon animation.
In cartoons, innocently violent scenes unfold again and again, yet the characters, however crushed or blown apart, essentially never die.
That is precisely why the cat's eyes, peering out at us, hold neither pessimism nor sorrow.
