ghost
DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION
This "ghost" series finds possibility in the "object-ness" left behind, along with the meaning of being ceramics, even as ceramic expression as contemporary art becomes increasingly sculptural — reinterpreting that object-ness and redefining ceramic expression.
The nature of "object-ness" consists of two qualities — "purposefulness" (that is, function) and "formal quality" — and this work addresses that relationship, taking the vessel's form as its starting point.
And the "cracking" expression that characterizes this work is incorporated into its form as a material expression, through a unique method that makes use of the material's tendency to expand and contract.
The crack plays the role of stripping only "function" from the object-ness inherent in the form, making this a work that brings to the surface the conflict within ceramic expression and a certain complex toward art.
