A staining painting reinterpreting Muromachi-era ink wash painting for the present day
The Humidity series is a study of Western staining painting in art history alongside the traditional Japanese technique of itome yuzen dyeing. Referencing the ink-wash paintings of Sesshu from the Muromachi period as a contemporary reinterpretation, it attempts to generate new painterly imagery by blending, on the painting's surface, accidental bleeding brought about by gravity with the itome (thread-resist) outlines that prevent such bleeding.
