Eightfold Blessing, Leap

A work inspired by the word "kotohogu" — to pray for happiness by offering words of celebration.

Bamboo has long been regarded in Japan as a sacred plant that wards off evil, and has been used in various Shinto rites.

Using that bamboo, the auspicious, ever-widening figure "8" is formed and linked together, embodying a prayer that happiness may continue on in an unbroken chain.
The word "Hachihogu" is a coinage by the artist.
The subtitle “leap” was named after a form resembling a person jumping.
The main material is madake bamboo from Oita Prefecture.
Making the most of bamboo's supple qualities, it is finished with dyeing and lacquer.
