After the cup-and-saucer form was thrown on the wheel, cast katakana characters were applied to the surface. Feelings that cannot be put into words, thoughts and emotions with nowhere to go, are rendered in katakana — said to be the hardest Japanese script to read intuitively — expressing how such things accumulate on the objects around us.
