SPIKY SAKE CUP 1120-Ⅰ

A guinomi sake cup (ochoko). Densely covered with cone-shaped protrusions, this small piece has a striking presence.
When filled with a clear liquid, the golden interior shines even more brilliantly. Made using the hand-building technique, it takes on a truly one-of-a-kind form.

The SPIKY series, said to deliberately approach today's flattened way of seeing things with a sense of the foreign and unfamiliar.
Its form seems almost to refuse being picked up.
The protrusions spreading across the whole vessel visualize — and make tangible — a force inherently latent within things.
It is rendered with a powerful expression, as if a force hidden within had burst out onto the surface.
Ceramics, a traditional craft nurtured over a long history. Koga intends, by introducing a stimulus in form, to give the person holding it a fresh sense of surprise.
