Shikase is a traditional style of Asahi ware, and the spotted pattern, literally resembling the back of a deer, is created by using Uji pottery clay that has been left to rest for many years and firing pine wood in a climbing kiln. In addition, while the houkimoku technique is a characteristic technique that Asahiyaki has often used since its founding, this tea bowl takes advantage of the sensibilities gained from the Tsukishiro glaze style and has a shape that is not found in the classic deer-back tea bowl. Moreover, it is a more modern style tea bowl with silver color overlay.
