DESCRIPTION

Kaseji is a traditional Asahi ware style, its spotted pattern — resembling, as the name suggests, a deer's back — drawn out using clay from Uji aged for many years and firing with split pinewood in a climbing kiln. Herame (spatula marks), a technique Asahi ware has favored since its first generation, also appear here, yet this tea bowl departs from the classical kaseji form, informed by the sensibility gained through the Geppaku-yu Nagashi style. Layered further with silver decoration, it is a more contemporary kaseji tea bowl.
