vortex tea bowl
DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION
The effects of “meditation,” as represented by mindfulness, are drawing attention.
In an age overflowing with information, people seek a stillness of mind that lets them step back from it all, if only for a moment.
Tea was brought from China by Zen monks, and its ties to Zen run deep.
The chemical coloring lends a sense of unease to this piece, presented as a tea bowl, while also drawing the viewer into a psychedelic world.
The "gradation," too, seems to suggest that this mysterious world lies somewhere between consciousness and the unconscious.
The tea bowl swirls toward its center, deepening the viewer's sense of immersion.
It can also be seen as a visual expression of meditation — an act of dispelling distracting thoughts by concentrating on what is directly in front of you, right now.
