"Daruma", beloved as a good-luck charm, is modeled on Bodhidharma, known as the founder of Zen Buddhism. Legend has it that after nine years devoted entirely to zazen meditation, his limbs decayed and disappeared. As the founder of Zen, his willingness to take on something new and devote himself entirely to it echoes Koga's own artistic stance of pursuing the new value of "anti-wabi-sabi". The countless studs covering the daruma represent a rebellious spirit, reinforcing the meaning behind the daruma — that it always rights itself when knocked down.
