Tea Bowl, Kase (Deer's-Back Pattern)

A bowl that beautifully expresses “kase,” the mottled effect virtually synonymous with Asahi ware.
Called a "katami-gawari" (split-body pattern), its color is sharply divided between left and right; the crepe-textured foot, carved with fine wrinkles, is also beautifully touched with the scarlet of the flame — a distinctly Asahi-yaki interpretation of the Korean Totoya tea bowl.
