DESCRIPTION
A work that deliberately forgoes white slip, focusing instead on the beauty that gekkai (moon-white) glaze reveals when fired in a climbing kiln.
Exposed to intense heat, the geppaku (moon-white) glaze slowly flows down toward the base of the vessel. As a result, the thinned rim becomes translucent, revealing the color of the clay beneath; on the body, crackling (kannyū) creates its own landscape, and where the glaze pools — along the outer waist and the inner base — it reveals a beautiful pale blue.
